How to Make a Buttercream Floral Lady Cake

How to Make a Floral Lady Cake with Buttercream: A Step-by-Step Guide

Creating a beautiful Floral Lady Cake with buttercream is an artful and creative process that combines piping techniques, design, and a little bit of patience.

Here's a Step-by-Step Video👇 to help you bring this stunning cake to life

Materials You’ll Need:

  • 2-tier cake

  • Buttercream

  • Piping bags

  • Piping tips: Wilton 102 or 104 for flowers

  • Food colouring

  • A small brush for painting

  • Palette Knife
  • Toothpicks or parchment paper for tracing

Step 1: Cover the Cake with Buttercream

Start by preparing your cake. You’ll want a 2-tier or more for this cake. Chill the cake before painting.

Step 2: Trace the Lady Design on the Cake

Next, it's time to create the design for your floral lady. You’ll be using a simple method to transfer the design onto the cake.

  1. Draw the lady: Lightly sketch the outline of the lady on a piece of parchment paper or use a toothpick to gently trace the design onto the cake. If you're not confident in your freehand skills, you can print out a design and cut it out to use as a template.

  2. Place the design on the cake: Carefully position the parchment with the design onto the cake, then use a toothpick to trace around the outline onto the buttercream surface. The design should be subtle, so you’ll have a guideline for painting.

Step 3: Paint the Face and Body of the Lady

Once the outline is in place, it’s time to bring the lady to life with some buttercream painting.

  1. Prepare the buttercream: Take a small portion of buttercream and tint it with your desired colors for the face, hair, and body of the lady.

  2. Paint the details: Using a small brush, begin painting the features of the lady’s face and body directly onto the cake. Focus on adding delicate details like the eyes, nose, lips, and hair.

Step 4: Pipe Details for the Gown

Now that your lady’s face and body are complete, it's time to add the gown details. For this, you'll be piping buttercream directly onto the cake, so make sure your buttercream is the right consistency for piping. Pipe small details on the body of the gown. You can choose any colour gown of your choice.

Step 5: Pipe Simple Blossoms on the Gown

The fun part! Adding floral details will really bring the gown to life and give it a whimsical, feminine touch.

  1. Prepare your piping bag: Use Wilton 102 or 104 nozzles to pipe small buttercream blossoms onto the gown.

  2. Pipe the flowers: For each flower, hold the piping bag at a 30 degree angle and apply gentle pressure to create the petals. Wilton 102 and 104 tips are ideal for piping small blooms.

  3. Add more flowers: Fill in the rest of the gown with tiny blossoms, making sure to vary the placement for a natural, flowing look. You can use different colors to add dimension to the flowers and make them pop.
