Buttercream Red Flower Bunch Cake

How Amazing and Gorgeous are these Buttercream Bunch of Flowers?

Hope you like it as much as I do.

Hey there,

I am glad you are here and in this short video, I am going to demonstrate a super simple Buttercream Flower Piping method. This cake design is perfect for a party or if you add more Buttercream Flowers, it is apt for a Wedding Cake Design to shine as the centre piece.

Watch the Video below

(Make sure you read the blog first before watching the video as there are useful tips there)

Ingredients and Tools:

  • Cake (Size of your choice)
  • Red Coloured Buttercream
  • Pink Buttercream
  • Yellow Buttercream and
  • Green Coloured Buttercream
  • Colourmill Oil Based colours (Use Code NEETHA10 for 10% off)
  • Piping bags
  • Wilton 103 nozzle (for red buttercream)
  • Wilton 352 nozzle (for green buttercream)
  • Cake turntable (optional)

Instructions:

1. Crumbcoat and Cover Your Cake:

Ensure your cake is crumb coated and covered with a smooth layer of buttercream. You can choose any colour of your choice. I have used Pink & Yellow Coloured Buttercream to cover the cake to give it a Water colour themed Cake. You can see how I covered the cake with in this Blog Post > Covering the Cake

2. Prepare Piping Bags:

  • Fill one piping bag with Red buttercream fitted with a Wilton 103 nozzle for piping petals.
  • Fill a second piping bag with Green buttercream fitted with a Wilton 352 nozzle for creating leaves.
  • Fill a third piping bag with little Yellow Buttercream with a hole at the end (no nozzle required here) to pipe the stamens.

3. Pipe Flower Petals (Red Buttercream):

Pipe a dome of buttercream on the cake which is slightly projected at the top. This is where we are going to pipe our bunch of flowers so it gives an elevated look on top of the cake. This will ensure a unique looking Cake design that will stand out from any other cakes.

Hold the piping bag with the red buttercream at a 30-degree angle to the buttercream dome, the wider end of the nozzle at the bottom and narrow end at the top. Begin piping petals by applying gentle pressure and releasing a simple fan shaped petal. Keeping the centre of the flower at one point, pipe 4 petal flowers.

4. Create Flower Bunches:

Pipe several flowers around the dome of the cake forming small bunch of flowers. There is no hard and fast rule on where you should position your flowers, but as a guide just aim to cover the dome without crowding the petals. Leave some gaps for the Buttercream Leaves.

5. Pipe Leaves (Green Buttercream):

Switch to the Green Buttercream piping bag fitted with Wilton 352 nozzle. Pipe leaves around the flowers by applying gentle pressure and pulling away, creating a leaf shape. Pipe the the leaves evenly to enhance the flower bouquet's appearance.

6. Pipe Buttercream Stamens (Yellow Buttercream):

Using the third piping bag with a hole cut at the end, simple place some dots of yellow buttercream at the middle of the flowers to give it a realistic looking Buttercream Flower look!

Finish off with some Buttercream Petals (no pun intended 😉) scattered around if you see them fit your design.
