Ingredients and Tools:

  • Cake (Size of your choice)
  • Concrete Coloured Buttercream for Covering the Cake
  • Red Coloured Buttercream
  • Green Coloured Buttercream
  • Normal Buttercream
  • Colourmill Oil Based colours (Use Code NEETHA10 for 10% off)
  • Piping bags
  • Wilton 103 nozzle (for red buttercream)
  • Wilton 352 nozzle (for green buttercream)
  • Cake turntable

Instructions:

1. Crumbcoat and Cover Your Cake:

Ensure you crumb coat the cake and cover it with a smooth layer of buttercream. I have used Concrete Coloured Buttercream (I coloured it with Colourmill Concrete, you can also use a small amount of black gel colour to achieve this effect). This colour goes well with the Red Buttercream Roses that we are going to pipe. If you are using a Cake Dummy and want to know how to cover a dummy cake, watch the detailed video here >> Covering the Dummy Cake

2. Prepare Piping Bags:

  • Fill one piping bag with Red buttercream fitted with a Wilton 103 nozzle for piping petals.
  • Fill a second piping bag with Green buttercream fitted with a Wilton 352 nozzle for creating leaves.
  • Fill a third piping bag with uncoloured Buttercream with a hole at the end (no nozzle required here) to use as fillers

3. Pipe Roses using Red Buttercream:

With the red buttercream piping bag (Wilton 103), Pipe a cone shape of buttercream on the flower nail. This cone is the structure for our rose.

With the the wider end of the nozzle at the bottom and narrow end at the top. Begin piping curved upright petals to cover the cone of buttercream. This is the rose bud. Now continue piping two or three layers of curved arched petals around the rose bud to form a small rose.  Place this rose on the cake with a flower lifter.

4. Pipe Leaves (Green Buttercream):

Switch to the Green Buttercream piping bag fitted with Wilton 352 nozzle. Pipe leaves around the flowers by applying gentle pressure and pulling away, creating a leaf shape.

5. Pipe Buttercream Fillers (Normal Buttercream):

Using the third piping bag with a hole cut at the end, simple place some dots in between the leaves.

This is your perfect Valentines Day Cake filled with gorgeous piped Red Buttercream Roses. Hope you will try this Cake Design and do share your creations with me, [email protected]

Until next time,

Much love,
